Twenty years. One school. One promise kept.
What started as a winter trip to The Gambia in 2005 is today a school for around 200 children. We’re still building — one classroom at a time.
Education is The Gambia’s biggest challenge.
In 2005 Guy Borrey and Tina travelled to The Gambia for the sun. On the beach they met a man trying to run a school. Like most schools in The Gambia, his school was short on money. Guy and Tina promised to come back.
Twenty years later, there are five classrooms in Serekunda. Three more are being built. Everything we’ve built since 2008 is in Tin’s name — she passed away that year.

Foundation and walls are up. Next: roof, floor, plaster. Each classroom costs around €3,000 to finish. Every euro helps.

Sindola is 100% volunteer-run. No salaries, no office, no overhead. Every euro you give reaches Serekunda.

Twenty years, in two sentences.
It’s three steps forward, two steps back. Demoralising some days. But what we can’t do today, we’ll do tomorrow. And we stay.
He said: “I have a school here, and like most schools in Gambia, we don’t have money.” We went to visit. We promised to come back. Twenty years later, we still come back.
